Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.
(Proverbs 14:31 NIV)
I long to help every needy person in the world, Lord. Perhaps the most effective way to do this is by praying that You will send help wherever it is needed. Meanwhile, there is my corner of the universe with its many needs, some of which are indeed within my reach: half my sandwich to the person standing near the freeway ramp with a sign. An evening spent going through my closet setting aside things to donate—helping out at my church some weekend afternoon, visiting the sick and homebound. It is a privilege to honor You by extending your compassion – in person.
Lord, please bring to mind other things to do that would please You. I continue to praise you daily, Lord, in the humble ways You have taught me. I want to bring You and Your Word out into the light and share it with all I can. Thank you, Lord, for loving me unconditionally.
