The Flame of His Joy

A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.

In faithfulness, he will bring forth justice.

(Isaiah 42:3 NIV)

Life isn’t easy. Some days, even getting out of bed to face the day can be a truly daunting task. Because sin entered the world and corrupted God’s perfect design, we may find ourselves bruised like fragile reeds by the painful effects of a broken world. If we allow ourselves to stay in our broken state without relying on the powerful source of God’s comfort, peace, and love, we might even find ourselves as hopeless as a smoldering wick about to lose its flame.

The state of hopelessness is dangerous; it is one of the worst places to allow ourselves to dwell. God knows our heartache, and He understands our suffering. When we have been bruised in this world, He offers us healing. We may never understand why we have to endure heartbreaking experiences, but we can hold securely to the truth that God’s justice is certain. He will heat our hearts with the flame of His joy again.

Blessings on this Monday, All!
