The Importance of Listening

As humans, we have five senses – sight, smell, hearing, touch, and taste. Although they are all of great importance, I would like to focus on hearing. If our ability to hear diminishes, we suffer problems communicating with our friends, family, and all those we have contact with daily. Our very lives suffer because of it. Hearing loss makes you have to listen harder, which is unnatural and tricky and tiring. Conversations become trying.

As one who has hearing loss myself, I began to think about my communication with God. I speak to Him as if He were sitting next to me and is my BFF. Sometimes I talk to Him out loud. I don’t feel that makes me strange because I do the same thing to my physical BFF. Why should God be any different?

For me, the next thought is listening. Hearing and listening go together like peaches and cream. When I started thinking about listening, I asked myself if I was truly listening to God. Listening to God is a bit different, I feel. I need to quiet my spirit, clear my mind, and remove all outward interruptions: television, radio, and Alexa. Then, as I listen for His guidance, I can hear Him. To me, there is nothing better than conversing with God. When we follow God’s guidance, we may be sure that he will not fail to bring us to our goal. Have a blessed day.
