Forgiveness

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make Him out to be a liar, and His word is not in us.

(1 John 1:9-10 NIV)

Accepting God’s forgiveness is the first step of our spiritual journeys. Much like rain cleansing the air, God’s forgiveness cleanses our souls. It washes away sin and guilt and brings forth renewal and refreshment. There is no sin so great that God’s grace can’t cover it. Saul persecuted Christians, and after traveling the Damascus Road, he became the apostle Paul. There is also no sin so small that we don’t need His forgiveness. God doesn’t rank sin as we do. Sin is sin, and God hates it all because it requires the death of His one and only Son to wipe it away.

We must keep short accounts with God by quickly admitting our sin and receiving the forgiveness He offers. Once our fellowship with God is restored, we can extend forgiveness to others. Our spiritual growth depends on it. When we refuse to forgive others, we wither and dry up spiritually. Our soul becomes parched and hard. Allow yourself to receive God’s forgiveness and extend it to others. Experience renewal and refreshment of your soul. Blessings!
