The Abundant Life

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.

(John 10:10 NIV)

What did Jesus mean by those words? Jesus was crucified and buried. However, the story doesn’t end there. Three days later, He demonstrated victory over death by coming back to life! His resurrection assures us of the same victory–eternal life. Eternal life begins the moment we accept Jesus as Savior and continues in heaven, our final destination.

We must remember that before Christ was victorious, He had to suffer and die. Christ willingly went to the cross. Although He asked His Father that the cup pass from Him, He submitted to His heavenly Father by saying, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” We are called to follow Christ’s example by desiring God’s will above ours. The abundant life on earth is only experienced when we submit to God’s will. Jesus didn’t come only to give us eternal life in heaven and abundant life on earth.

Prayer:         Lord, Sometimes it is so difficult to submit to Your will. I need help believing that Your way is best. Please help me to understand and believe. Amen.
