God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, and the mountains quake with their surging.
(Psalm 46:1-3 NIV)
In her book The Atonement Child, Francine Rivers writes, “One person standing on a rock can throw a lifeline to others drowning in the sea.” We are surrounded by people on the brink of disaster. They are holding on to life preservers they think will keep them afloat: children, spouses, careers, money, homes, health, and beauty. However, when children leave, spouses betray, financial markets go haywire, eerily plummeting like never before, and the health of a loved one fails, they quickly begin to sink. They need a lifeline!
Jesus Christ is the only life preserver that keeps us afloat in life’s worst storms. He is the lifeline. Those who cling to Him will not drown. How should we respond when we see someone drowning? Share the truth of Jesus in their hour of need. Testify that because He has rescued and saved you, He is able to do the same for them. The Lord has given you His lifeline. Throw it to others!
