A Doer of the Word

Do not merely listen to the Word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

(James 1:22 NIV)

James uses an illustration of a mirror to make a point about obedience. He says that listening to God’s Word and failing to obey it is like looking at yourself in a mirror and then forgetting what you look like the second you turn away from the mirror. God’s Word needs to make an indelible impression on our minds that we live it out in obedience. Truth needs to move from our heads to our hearts.

We may know the truth, but obedience may seem impossible when we face a difficult trial. Yet, that is the time when obedience is necessary. We obey as an act of our will, even though we might not feel like it.

Our true character is revealed when we are under pressure. Keep in mind that God uses trials to test our faith. Perseverance is learned. Spiritual maturity is the result. God will bless us when we are doers of His Word! Blessings, all!
