Contentment

But godliness with contentment is great gain.

(1 Timothy 6:6 NIV)

Are you content with what the Lord has blessed you with, or do you often fantasize about winning the lottery? What would you buy first? Would you take all of the money at once or monthly payments? Would you continue to work or tell the boss and wave goodbye to the boss as you leave the premises?

Take heed: “Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.” (1 Timothy 6:9 NIV). The want of money may tempt us to compromise our values and beliefs. We will never be satisfied if we chase after money. We experience contentment when we place our trust in the Lord instead of money. The Lord alone gives lasting satisfaction.

Debt occurs when we spend more than we make. Maybe we find waiting difficult. We justify a purchase by saying we “need” it rather than admitting that we “want” it. The Lord faithfully satisfies all of our “needs.” He doesn’t supply all of our “wants.” We need to be willing to wait on Him. Chase the Lord instead of money, and you will find true contentment.

Blessings, everyone.
