Treasures

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

(Matthew 6:19-21 NIV)

Where is your treasure? Where is your heart? God’s Word tells us they are in the same place. Either God is your treasure and has your heart, or money does. A sobering thought. We can’t serve both God and money. We have to choose. Having money is not a problem, but when we put money before God as a priority, there comes a problem.

We are encouraged to store up treasures in heaven. When the Lord is more important than money, our focus will be spiritual instead of temporal. As we’ve learned, money and material possessions will pass away. Spiritual riches are eternal. Check your heart; where is your treasure? Our hearts should belong to Jesus; He is our treasure, indeed!
