In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another because “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
(1 Peter 5:5-6 NIV)
Man is prideful—plain and simple. Pride convinces us that we know best. Pride urges us to do things our way, when we want and how we want. God hates pride because it cries out, “I need nothing. I can manage.” God desires that we turn to Him. Pride hinders us from seeking God’s presence in our lives. However, we want to be in control of our own destinies. We want to live life our way, thinking we don’t need any help.
Being humble means acknowledging that we depend on God and submitting to His authority. Humility also involves respecting other people and not thinking too highly of ourselves. It involves looking “not only to our interests but to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:4). God promises wisdom and grace when we are humble. He will lift us up. Ask the Lord to give you a humble heart today. Blessings to you all, my friends.
