Our Life’s Goal

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

(2 Corinthians 5:10 NIV)

Death is a taboo subject in our society. We act as if we are immortal. Yet, it’s been said that our lives are but a dash—as depicted by the dash between the dates of our birth and death on our headstones. No one escapes physical death.

If we have accepted Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, we have been given spiritual life and need not fear condemnation. However, we will still stand before Christ one day to have our lives evaluated—not to determine our salvation, but to receive our rewards. No one knows when that time will come. That thought shouldn’t scare us, it should motivate us.

Will we be exposed? Have our lives counted for anything? Have we shown the love of Christ to those around us? The Gospel is urgent business. Our life’s goal should be to please and serve the Lord.

Let’s live for the One who gave us life. May His love urge us! Someday, when we meet face-to-face, may he be able to say to each of us, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Lord, may we be about Your business. I pray You find me faithful as I do my best to live for You.
