The Good Shepherd

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

(Psalm  23:1-3 NIV)

A good shepherd has an intimate relationship with every sheep in his fold. They follow when he calls them by name because they recognize his voice. He provides for all of their needs. They can rest because they feel safe and secure. He never abandons them.

We have a Good Shepherd; His name is Jesus. Our lives are in His hands. He calls us by name, and we can recognize His voice. He meets all of our needs. He helps us in time of need; He finds us when we stray and protects us against Satan’s schemes. Jesus was human, so he felt sorrow and rejection just like we do at times. He endured pain and suffering for our sake. He has given us victory by laying down His life for us. He is committed to us for eternity!

Do you have a personal relationship with the Good Shepherd? If not, why not invite Him into your heart right now? If you do know the Good Shepherd, can you recognize His voice? Ask for discernment. Quiet yourself and listen intently. Then obey. The more we obey, the more we’ll be able to discern His voice.
