When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
(1 Corinthians15:54-57 NIV)
After Jesus’ death, his body was bound in grave clothes and hidden in a dark tomb for three days. During that time, God’s power was at work, transforming and giving life. The same power is available to us. Metaphorically, we can enter the tomb, shed our grave clothes, and emerge victorious. Grave clothes could represent earthly entanglements that bind and hold us captive—sinful habits or past hurts. God begins His transforming work in these areas. Be patient. Transformation takes time. However, as Jesus experienced spiritual victory when He shed His grave clothes, we too can celebrate the victory He claimed for us.
Satan viewed the cross and tomb as his means of victory. But God had a better plan. Satan may attempt to hold you captive, but God has a better plan! Let the Lord do His work and unbind those things that hinder. Then you can leave your grave clothes behind and experience spiritual victory by the power of the Holy Spirit (Sarayu).
