But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
(Isaiah 40:31 NIV)
Eagles fly by gently flapping their wings and using the air currents to soar. They do not appear frantic in flight but peaceful and calm. What if we could go through life with such poise and strength? This passage from Isaiah states that it is possible when we put our hope in the Lord.
God is God. We are not. If we’re honest with ourselves, most of us have difficulty being still and waiting on God. Foolishly believing we are in control, we may jump into action. Many times prayer is the only action the Lord desires of us. Prayer demonstrates our belief in His sovereignty. God is at work whether we see His plan unfolding or not. We can be still when we trust God instead of ourselves, knowing that He is working on our behalf.
As we humble ourselves before the Lord, we receive His peace. We can then respond rather than react to life’s circumstances. The Lord renews our strength and enables us to soar on wings like eagles.
Lord, we desire Your peace and strength. Help us to pray, wait, and be still before You. Amen.
