I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
(John 15:15 NIV)
Jesus desires a real relationship with us. Since He is our Maker, we can be ourselves with Him. Complete honesty is possible because He knows our thoughts even before we speak them. We can admit our mistakes and receive His forgiveness. Even though Jesus knows our deepest, darkest secrets, He still loves us. We can share our hopes and dreams while seeking His wisdom.
Joseph Scriven wrote the hymn “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” in 1857. Although his life was plagued with personal tragedy, he wrote about his friendship with Jesus. Here is the first stanza:
What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer.
Jesus is the best friend we could possibly have. He will never let us down or leave us! Reach out today for His friendship. You won’t be disappointed!
