The Bread of Life

“I am the bread of life. Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died. But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

(John 6:48-51 NIV)

It has been said that sharing our Christian faith is simply one beggar telling another beggar where to find food. We are all spiritually hungry. God created us that way. But there is Good News: God also provides the food to satisfy that hunger. He has given us Jesus, the Bread of Life. Jesus is revealed to us through the Bible. If we want our spiritual hunger satisfied, we must feed on His Word.

When the Israelites were wandering in the desert for forty years, God provided food by raining down manna from heaven. The manna had to be gathered daily (except for the Sabbath). In the same way, we are to feast daily on the Bread of Life. Spiritual food gives us spiritual strength, which we need to have when we encounter the enemy. We can’t store spiritual nourishment as we would provisions for the future. Have you found spiritual food? If you have, share the Good News with others you meet.
