Our Spiritual Gardens

But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown.”

(Matthew 13:23 NIV)

Many times Jesus used parables to illustrate the truth. The parable of the sower is no exception. Jesus described a farmer who went out to sow his seed. The seed fell on different types of soil – pathways, rocks, thorns, and good soil. The soil itself determined whether the seed would grow and produce a crop.

Jesus is the Living Water. Our hearts are like the soil on which the Lord sows spiritual seed. What type of soil is your heart: rock, hard, thorny, or good? Good soil receives the sown seed because it is not hard, but well watered. Daily Bible reading and prayer allow the Living Water to saturate our souls. The Lord uses circumstances and people to stimulate spiritual growth, much like fertilizer enriches the soil. Well-watered soil promotes germination. Let’s allow the seed of truth to penetrate the good soil of our hearts, so we yield spiritual fruit.
