The New Covenant

“This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

(Jeremiah 31:33-34 NIV)

The Old Covenant focused on laws and rules. Jesus didn’t come to abolish the laws, but to fulfill them. Do not think that I have come to abolish the Laws or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” (Matthew 5:17)

Jesus has come! The New Covenant has been ushered in. Jesus inaugurated the New Covenant with His blood. We are the recipients of the blessings of the New Covenant. The full benefits are still in the future for Israel, but we can enjoy the provisions of this wonderful gift from God today.

There are many benefits of this covenant that Jesus makes with us. God has written His law in our minds and on our hearts. We can worship Him in spirit and truth. Through His sacrificial death on the cross, God has forgiven our sins and remembers them no more. Let us rejoice in this blessing!
