Be strong and courageous because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them.
(Joshua 1:6 NIV)
After Moses’ death, the Lord appointed Joshua to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. Even though God had prepared Joshua for this assignment, Joshua was afraid he would not be up to the task. Knowing his fear, God encouraged Him by saying, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9 NIV).
God might not be calling you to lead anyone into the Promised Land; however, He has called you to something. Perhaps fear and doubt have gripped your heart because you feel inadequate to the task. There are many reasons for doubt, including sin and guilt, previous failures, a negative influence from others, or a wrong focus. Doubt can paralyze our walk with God. When we experience doubt, we need to meditate on God’s Word—read it, study it, and ponder it. As we question God and He answers us, our faith will grow. As a watered garden. Fear and doubt will be left to wilt and die in the dust.
