For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
(Hebrews 4:15 NIV)
We all face temptation. It’s comforting to know that even Jesus was tempted, just as we are. The difference is—He never sinned. That is good news for us! He knows how we feel under the weight of temptation. We are not alone. He is with us, and because Jesus never sinned, He can provide the strength we need to say no to every dark thought or evil imagination.
God’s mighty armor is sufficient for us. Paul describes the spiritual armor we have been given in Ephesians 6:10-17. “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the whole armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Don’t become discouraged when you are tempted. On the contrary, let your faith enable you to stand. Your faith is your shield! Come confidently to God, and you will receive grace and mercy to help in your time of need.
