Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
(Ephesians 1:3 NIV)
Why is it that we tend to think of God’s blessings in the material sense? When things are going our way and God answers our prayers, we thank Him for our blessings. The “prosperity gospel” touts that God promises material blessings to His followers. However, God’s truth affirms that the greatest blessings have nothing to do with material things or social position. God’s blessings are spiritual. They have everything to do with His presence.
God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through,
God hath not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.
But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way.
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.
