Formation vs. Transformation

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

(Romans 12:2 NIV)

Living a godly life is impossible without God. He is the One who has given us a new nature. When we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are born spiritually. Sarayu (The Holy Spirit) comes to dwell in us. He is our Counselor and Comforter. It is through Him that transformation takes place; we begin to grow spiritually and become more Christlike.

Although physically we live in this world, our eternal residence is in heaven. While on earth, we are being shaped and molded into the image of Christ. Through the power of The Holy Spirit (Sarayu), God is purifying us and enabling us to live a godly life. We participate in this process by allowing Him to change us. This transformation cannot happen without our acceptance of Jesus. It is not something we, ourselves, are capable of doing.

I had questions to work through as I thought of this. I encourage you to research transformation in your Bible and possibly have a discussion with your pastor or Bible Study teacher. May the Lord bless us all.
