My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
(John 10:27 NIV)
A shepherd knows each of his sheep by name. When he calls, they respond because they know their distinct voice. A good shepherd protects his sheep from predators. They provide food, water, and shelter. So, when the sheep hear his voice, why wouldn’t they follow their shepherd?
Jesus is the Good Shepherd, and we are His sheep. Jesus says that His sheep can discern His voice. So, how do we know when God is speaking to us? When making a decision, are we unsure what to do? How can we be sure of God’s will? How can we recognize His voice?
The Bible is the standard of truth. If you need to hear God speak audibly, read the Bible out loud! We get to know the heart of God by spending time in His Word. Bankers handle money day in and day out. As a result, they can spot counterfeit bills quickly. Are we regularly drinking in God’s truth so we can tell the difference between truth and lies? Jesus always leads us in the right direction. The best advice is to listen to the Good Shepherd and follow Him. Blessings, all!
