That night the king could not sleep, so he ordered the book of the chronicles, the record of his reign, to be brought in and read to him.
(Esther 6:1 NIV)
When King Xerxes woke up in the middle of the night, he decided to read. God used the king’s restlessness to carry out His will ultimately. In an unexpected turn of events, Mordecai was honored for exposing an assassination attempt on the king’s life while Haman was hung on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. You can read about this in Esther chapters 6 and 7.
God works in extraordinary ways. His plan for us will prevail. How does God get our attention? He might give us a restless spirit. Things might not seem “right.” Or maybe we experience a sleepless night. A recurring thought or dream might continue to come to mind despite our attempts to quiet it.
Please don’t ignore these things when they happen to you. Instead, seek Jesus. Now that He has your attention ask Him to speak and listen to what He tells you. Wait for Him to speak. Many times, once we agree that His direction will be ours, He speaks loudly and clearly. The Lord gets our attention to convey His will so that we can follow Him—it’s that simple.
Lord, may I heed and follow wherever You lead me. May Your will be done. Amen.
