Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing. The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
(Psalm 34:8-10 NIV)
God’s idea of “good things” is much different than ours. Our perspective is physical; His is spiritual. In God’s eyes, even suffering, trials, and heartache can be “good” if they fit within His plan for our lives.
Think about Joseph from the Old Testament. Despite slavery, betrayal, and imprisonment, Joseph trusted in God’s plan. Somehow, he was able to put his suffering in the context of God’s sovereignty. Years later, he was reunited with his brothers and testified this way in Genesis 50:20: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”
When we seek the Lord, we won’t lack anything we need. Sarayu (the Holy Spirit) confirms this truth: the more we seek Him, the more we are satisfied with the good things in life.
Lord, help me gain Your perspective. When the storms of life head my way, may I seek you, Lord. Help me know that You have a “good” plan for me—even in painful times. Amen.
