And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
(Luke 24:27 NIV)
After Jesus’ death and resurrection, He encountered two of his followers on the road to Emmaus. Although they were prevented from recognizing Him until supper later that day, Jesus revealed truth as they traveled together.
During Jesus’ earthly ministry, He referred to the Old Testament scriptures frequently. He did so to validate that His teachings were indeed God’s truth. Revealing the truth was central to Jesus’ ministry.
Jesus himself stated in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” In the same way that Jesus spoke the truth to the men on the road to Emmaus, He desires to tell us spiritual truth today.
We must study and meditate daily on the truth that is found in the Bible. We are privileged to have access to God’s Word. Knowing the Old Testament truths are essential if we desire to get a complete picture of our loving Messiah, Jesus. Neglecting the Bible is neglecting our spiritual growth.
Prayer: Lord, may we never take having access to Your Word for granted. Help us to set aside time daily to read and meditate on Your truth that’s found in the Bible. Amen.
