Lift your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.
(Psalm 24:7-8 NIV)
Praising God takes many forms. It’s not just singing worship songs in church, acknowledging an answered prayer to a friend, or thanking God for our blessings. True praise is an attitude of the heart. It is present in good times and bad. It’s present because God is worthy of true praise! He is the King of glory, strong and mighty!
Ponder these actions as steps needed to truly praise God:
- Submit to God regardless of the circumstances.
- Repent for any known sin, so your walk with Him is not hindered.
- Love God with your whole heart.
- Eliminate a critical spirit that implies you are right and others are wrong.
- Clear any evidence of fear, so you are not paralyzed or isolated.
- Focus on Christ and not the circumstances.
- Share Christ in your relationships with others.
Lord, search my heart and reveal any obstacles in my life that are preventing me from truly praising You. You and you alone are worthy of my utmost praise! Amen.
