Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
(James 1:2-4 NIV)
Life is full of many trials and heartaches as well as joyful and happy times. Let’s face it; it’s much easier to embrace sunny days than gloomy ones! As we bask in the joy of the good times, do we tend to leave God out of the equation? James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights….” When we experience smooth sailing, give thanks to God and acknowledge that your blessings have come from Him.
But what happens when trials and suffering come unexpectedly into our life and rock our world? Our trials are not random. They have a divine purpose. Are we able to experience the peace that God promises us, even in the midst of suffering? Do we live each day as if it were our last one? When we focus our attention on God rather than our circumstances, we can be confident that He matures our faith. We will experience peace. Isn’t that your choice? I know that it’s mine.
Lord, trials, and suffering are never what we would choose, yet we hold onto Your promise to give us peace during our darkest moments. May we feel your presence today. Thank you for walking beside me. Amen.
Blessings to you, my friends.
