But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
(Luke 10:40-42 NIV)
I have Martha days, and I have Mary days, Lord. Some days lend themselves to a more worshipful response to You than others do. But Mary didn’t let everyday tasks distract her from her golden opportunity to glean wisdom from You, Lord. Please help me in my quest to carve out time every day to be attentive to Your Spirit. My to-do list will always be there on the back burner.
Thank you for including the Martha and Mary story in Your Word, Lord. Many of us are like Martha, and I am grateful that You speak lovingly to us about our tendencies as You teach us to surrender to Your peaceful ways.
Thank you for being with us constantly and for Your unceasing love.
