Love and Memories Part 1

I have been thinking all day long about the subject of love and memories. The word love can be applied to many things, such as inanimate objects, for example. Other examples that come to my mind are situations and, of course, people. For today, and for the sake of brevity, I will talk about inanimate objects.

An item belonging to your grandparents or even your great grandparents is a great starting point if you are lucky enough to have known them. An object can bring back fond memories of your time with that person. Memories are strong, and something that evokes a strong memory is equally strong.

An old chalkboard most would pass by as nothing unless you know its history. Maybe a grandfather lovingly made it by hand from old planks for his grandchildren as a gift. Not a lot of money went into the making of it, but a LARGE AMOUNT OF LOVE. Gifts are not always about money. More often than not, in my family, they are about love and memories.

Then, there’s a threadbare rug that has seen better days. Unless you know that that rug is the first thing someone saw when they came in the door, you wouldn’t think twice about it, but if you knew the memories it holds, you would feel quite differently.

Then there are the memories you can FEEL AND NOT TOUCH. The answer to a simple question, “Where’s Dad?” What was the answer every single time? “Up on the roof shaving.” Now, we knew that wasn’t true, but, oh, the warmth and smile it brings to this heart are priceless.

Part 2 tomorrow, loved ones! Blessings!
